Well, I caught the tiger by the tail~I applied to be a participant in the always inspiring Knoxville PechaKucha AND I was offered the opportunity to present in the first program in 2026! I do what others might think of as public speaking quite often, ranging from guest lectures to keynotes to panels to training / workshops in organization to facilitating learning for undergraduates in a variety of undergraduate classes. However, speaking as a civilian to an audience accustomed to the four times a year wonder that is Knoxville’s PechaKucha brings more than a little bit of anxiety. But I had an idea that wouldn’t leave me alone, so I threw my hat in the ring. Stay tuned, and if you have never been to one of these events AND you’d like to be a friendly face in the audience, the general details are below! See you there?
The PechaKucha 20×20 presentation format is a slide show of 20 images, each auto-advancing after 20 seconds. It’s non-stop and you’ve got 400 seconds to tell your story, with visuals guiding the way. PechaKucha was created in Japan in 2003 by renowned architects, Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The word “PechaKucha” is Japanese for “chit chat.”
